From October 8th to 12th, 2025, Sikongo Town Council actively participated in the Zambezi Corridor One Health Expo, held at the Kabompo Wuwahe Campsite in Kabompo District.
The event was themed “Inclusivity in One Health, Environment, Climate Change, and Education for All.”
Representing the Council, the Department of Agriculture highlighted Sikongo’s agricultural potential and resilience to climate change.
The exhibition featured a diverse selection of cassava and rice varieties grown in the district, such as Supa Rice, Malawi Fire, Kamajacket, Wahi-Wahi, Angola Crystal, Bama, and Nerica 04.
In addition, the Council presented climate-resilient crops such as millet, sorghum and cowpeas, and a variety of both local and improved maize seeds underscoring the district’s commitment to sustainable farming practices.
During the closing ceremony, Vice President Dr. W.K. Mutale Nalumango encouraged local councils across Zambia to support farmers by investing in affordable, hireable farming equipment. She emphasized that such support would ease labor demands and improve agricultural productivity.
Dr. Nalumango also stressed that sustainable development is a shared responsibility, requiring collaboration between government, traditional leaders, local authorities, and the private sector. Her visit to the North-Western Province included three major engagements: the groundbreaking of the CAPHA School of Excellence, the launch of the 150-hectare CAPHA Rice Fields Project, and the commissioning of the Lukulu–Kabompo–Ishimi Rural Electrification Project by the Rural Electrification Authority (REA).
The event was attended by traditional leaders from the North-Western Province, the Western Province Local Government Officer, and Mongu District Agricultural Coordinator Christabel Kakumbi, who led the delegation.
Organized by the Coalition of African Parliamentarians on Human, Animal, Health and Environment (CAPHA), the Expo brought together stakeholders from all ten provinces of Zambia.
It served as a platform for cross-sector collaboration on key issues including public health, agriculture, environmental sustainability, and inclusive education.
