Over the years, Sikongo District has grappled with inadequate housing and accommodation facilities. Many public servants have been forced to use structures made of mud and poles for their accommodation.
Previously, Sikongo experienced a significant recruitment of public servants in the education sector. Unfortunately, most of these workers have had to endure subpar housing infrastructure amenities.
However, since the government began disbursing the enhanced Constituency Development Funds in 2022, Sikongo has launched a robust housing infrastructure development program. The goal is to improve accommodation conditions for public servants.
One of the schools benefiting from this initiative is Liundu Primary School, located in Lwambi ward of Sikongo District. The school has received a 1×2 semi-detached housing flat for teacher accommodation.
Funded under the 2023 Constituency Development Fund allocation, the housing flat costs K538,169.6.
And Lwambi Ward Councillor, Steady Maswabi, has expressed satisfaction with the development in his community. He said that the new infrastructure will alleviate the shortage of staff accommodation currently faced by the school.
“I am pleased that my ward is among those benefiting from various projects being implemented under the CDF. I hope that further construction of houses for public servants will continue, addressing the serious accommodation challenges in the district,” he said.
